Enchanting room setup

Minecraft enchanting guide

Minecraft has 42 enchantments in Java Edition, split across weapons, tools, and armor. The most important for combat are Sharpness V and Looting III on a sword, Power V on a bow, and Protection IV on all armor pieces. For tools, Efficiency V and Fortune III on a pickaxe are the standard endgame setup.

All boots enchantments worth having: Protection IV, Feather Falling IV (essential for fall damage), Depth Strider III for underwater movement, Soul Speed III (treasure only), Unbreaking III, and Mending. Frost Walker is a situational alternative to Depth Strider.

For leggings, Protection IV and Swift Sneak III (treasure, only from Ancient City chests) are the top picks. All helmet enchantments worth having include Protection IV, Respiration III, and Aqua Affinity I. For the chestplate, Protection IV and Thorns III.

Enchanted books can be obtained from fishing, trading with librarian villagers, or dungeon and stronghold chests. Librarians are the most reliable source for specific books like Mending. All enchantments are available as enchanted books including treasure enchantments that can't be obtained from the enchanting table directly.

Aqua Affinity and Depth Strider are searched frequently because they're easy to forget exist. Aqua Affinity goes on the helmet and removes the 5x underwater mining penalty. Depth Strider goes on boots and makes you swim at near-full land speed at level III.

The enchantment list is the same for most Java versions from 1.9 onward with additions in later versions. Sweeping Edge is Java Edition only and does not exist in Minecraft Bedrock. Most other enchantments are available in both versions with minor level or behavior differences.
